AIM

The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers; he’s one who asks the right questions.

APPROACH

Our pupils receive science lessons which are divided into two lessons focusing on physical science (chemistry and physics) and two focusing on the natural science (biology). Scientists do not sit down and think of ideas to test; ideas come from observations, experiences, needs and the interaction with colleagues and this is at the core of our teaching.

Throughout their seven years with us our pupils are involved in:
  • Experiments and practical observational work
  • Class discussion
  • Encouraging the appreciation of the spiritual dimension to life, and the development of a sound moral framework.
  • Group and individual work
  • Teacher demonstrations
  • Studying written evidence and audio visual material
  • Visits to places of scientific interest
  • Lectures and demonstrations by guest lecturers

This range of approaches allows us to ensure that our pupils develop the qualities we most want to encourage, in particular the desire to independently find the answers to their own question
